Ilocos region male pageant to promote financial wellness



VILLA GLORIA BEACH RESORT, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur - Twenty-one male candidates will compete at the inaugural Mister Ilocos 2019 pageant which aims to promote tourism in the region, preserve its heritage and financial wellness.

The 21 official candidates are: Adonis Verona (Agoo, La Union), Peter Rei Briosos Marzan (Bangued, Abra), Wealth Rigonan  (Batac, Ilocos Norte), Edison Pascual Ramos (Bayambang, Pangasinan), Geneio Palaganas Quiambao (Calasiao, Pangasinan), Mhakeous Palaganas Quiambao (Calasiao, Pangasinan), Clem Joshua Alcon Pascual  (Laoag City, Ilocos Norte), Noel Lozada Do-ayan (Lagangilang, Abra), Paul Edwin Reyes Astrande (Licuan Ba-ay, Abra), Juvann Barcenna Macario (Luba, Abra), Jyrico Macaguiwa Abubo (Naguilan, La Union), Jeke Alejandro Magno (Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte), Jay Jasper Dumenden Brillantes (Piddigan, Abra), Jerryson Ramos Jasmin (Pozorrubio, Pangasinan), Julious Desumala (San Emilio, Ilocos Sur), Jhon Lee Hortizuela Pat-Ongay (Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur), Simeon Cayetano (Urdaneta, Pangasinan), Norman Carls Lansang (Burgos, Ilocos Sur), Bern Harry Masadao (San isidro, Abra); and Ozzy Africa Gallardo (San Fernando City, La Union).

They were presented to members of media during a special show held at Villa Gloria Beach Resort here over the weekend, as witnessed by the pageant's sponsors and representatives of local officials.

MISTER ILOCOS 2019 PRESS PRESENTATION - The winners of five special awards at the Mister Ilocos 2019 pageant were presented during a special show for the press at Villa Gloria Beach Resort in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur over the weekend. They are: Ozzy Africa Gallardo (center), Face of the Night; and Adonis Verona, Julious Desumala, Jay Jasper Dumenden Brillantes, and Jerryson Ramos Jasmin, Best in Swimwear.

Fahd Bhanie Agbulos, head of organizing committee, said that the pageant is looking for someone who could be the voice of Ilocos region on worthwhile activities and be a role model for the youth. Also a member of the organizing committee is Gerald Montero.

Agbulos also said that the pageant aims to promote thriftiness. "Ilocanos have been stereotyped as stingy or kuripot with money. We're not stingy. It's just that many of us know how to manage our finances. We would like to bring that peg to the pageant so that people would be reminded of saving money."

During press presentation, five candidates won special awards: Face of the Night: Ozzy Africa Gallardo; and Best In Swimwear: Adonis Verona, Julious Desumala, Jay Jasper Dumenden Brillantes, and Jerryson Ramos Jasmin.

Ferdinand Abejon, member of the organizing committee, said that the contestants came from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan, and Abra.

Abejon said that the contestants will embark on a tour of Ilocos region to discover its origin and significant events that became part of nation's history. The grand finals will be held in La Union in May. - ROBERT REQUINTINA

Janjep Carlos named Mr. Fahrenheit 2019

Janjep Carlos will represent the Philippines in the Mr. Gay World 2019 pageant which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from April 28-May 5. Carlos, 41, businessman, earned the right to represent the country in the prestigious gay pageant abroad when he won the Mr. Fahrenheit 2019 contest held on E. Rodriguez, Quezon City at dawn March 31. First runners-up honors went to Kevin Garcia and Macky David Belen. This is not the first time that Carlos joined the national search. In 2017, Carlos competed but lost to John Raspado who later captured the Mr. Gay World title in Spain.
